Jim King is CEO of Spoken Giants, LLC the world’s first and largest rights administration company for spoken word “genres” such as comedy, podcasting, and audio renderings of multiple formats.
The company provides services as a performance rights and mechanical rights administration company, and provides publisher services for its many affiliated members – comedians, podcasters, and other spoken word rights holders.
King concurrently is interim CTO and consulting partner for Outsell, Inc., working with large information services company CEOs providing leadership development. King also provides advisory services as acting CTO for music services company, VNUE. Prior to Spoken Giants, King founded and led Core Rights, an Irving Azoff backed performing rights licensing marketplace.
Previously King was Senior Vice President of Business Operations and Technology at the world’s largest music performing rights organization (PRO) Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), and was responsible for IT, technology innovation, operations and product development at the $1.3B music services company. King joined BMI in 2010, having previously worked at United Business Media, PR Newswire, where he was Senior Vice President, Audience Platforms, and Global Chief Information Officer. King has held CIO, CTO, and COO positions with leading global information services, media and publishing companies including The McGraw-Hill Companies, Brightpoint Mobile, Reed Elsevier PLC, and LexisNexis. He also has held leadership roles with top IT companies, including Microsoft and NCR/AT&T Bell Labs where he was Chief Architect.
At Microsoft, he helped to create SharePoint and the .Net content service. King has been a founder and CEO of four startup companies and is passionate about designing new products and helping teams come together to execute and deliver!
King holds several graduate degrees, including a Masters in Computer Science. His graduate university experience includes Purdue University (LARS), Ball State University and technology and business leadership training, including the Executive Business program at the Vanderbilt University Owen School, MIT AI Labs, among other institutions.
In 2014 was named CIO/CTO of the Year in Tennessee and guided BMI to four straight years as one of the most innovative technology companies in the United States as named by InformationWeek Magazine, ranking 72nd, 64th, 26th, and 30th in the annual top 500 list.
